While the vacuum didn’t work, the tube did, and can perhaps became a standard-issue rescue device for these little critters who “love enclosed spaces.” The story comes from the English county of Warwickshire, where a homeowner called the local hedgehog rescue charity after hearing cries of distress coming from a drain in her garden. Arriving, rescuers discovered a baby hedgehog had tumbled 4 feet down into the drain and was trapped in a narrow underground pipe. Firefighters were also called and tried to use a vacuum cleaner to try and suck the critter out of the drain.
