While onboard, three astronauts—Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and William Anders, saw the vaunted “far side” of the Moon, and took the Earthrise picture. The crew orbited the Moon 10 times over the course of 20 hours, during which they made a Christmas Eve television broadcast where they read the first ten verses from the Book of Genesis, which was slightly ironic because the voyage turned Anders into an atheist.
