Millions cheered when astronaut Christina Hammock Koch returned from her 10-day mission around the moon, but no one was as excited as her “LBD,” Sadie Lou.

On April 1st, 2026, Koch boarded the Artemis II as a mission specialist, and after 10 days in space, she became the first woman to travel below low orbit when she circled the moon with crewmates Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Jeremy Hansen.

Koch splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego on April 10th and made a stop at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for a quick Q&A with fans. Soon after, she finally made it home to Galveston, where her dog, Sadie, was impatiently waiting for her.

Christina Hammock Koch and Her Dog Sadie Lou First Went Viral in 2020

Christina Hammock Koch posted a video from her home cameras on Instagram that has made nearly 1.5 million people melt. In it, Sadie can see Koch and her husband, Robert Koch, walking up her front steps. Her tail wags fast enough to launch her into space. And as soon as the door opens, she dashes into Koch’s arms and then grabs her favorite toy.

She followed the reunion with videos of her and Sadie splashing around on the beach together and having the time of their lives.

“I’m still pretty sure I was the happier side of this reunion,” Koch captioned. “Sadie taught me everything I needed to know about being an emotional support animal. Didn’t expect that would come in handy.”

Sadie Lou is a rescue dog, whom she refers to as her “little brown dog” or “LBD.” The two first went viral in 2020 when Koch posted Sadie’s reaction to her returning from a 328-day stay on the International Space Station.

“You’ve traveled all the way to the moon, you see the Earth as a tiny dot, and then you come back and you’re on a beach with your dog,” a fan wrote. “That is the immense gratitude of life.”

“Sadie has no idea how far you travelled to see her again,” another wrote. “Love this so much.”
